Mass of Pope Benedict XVI in Havana Revolution Square, March 28, 2012
On Wednesday, March 28, Pope Benedict XVI held the Mass at Havana’s Revolution Square. Close to 500,000 persons attended the ceremony, including the President of Cuba and other High ranking officials. The delegation from the Archdiocese of Miami was present, as well as the Knights and Dames of the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta and their invited friends.

The Cuban Association: Founded in 1952 in Cuba, later moved its headquarters to Miami, Florida after the Communist Revolution of 1959. With over 200 Knights, Dames, and volunteers in Florida, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Haiti, the Association is entirely dedicated to helping the poor, sick, and incarcerated, giving witness to the Catholic faith.
The Order of Malta has been a Catholic religious order since 1113, the year it was recognized by Pope Paschal II. As a religious order, its members required to maintain exemplary Christian behavior in their private and public life, contributing to the maintenance of the Order’s traditions.
Members of the Order of Malta are called to put their spirituality in action in service of the poor and the sick. Their work is manifested in the association’s medical and food projects in South Florida, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Basin.
The Cuban Association of the Order of Malta hosts several events throughout the year dedicated to the spiritual enrichment of its members, provide service to those in need, and to raise funds for its charitable work.
The Order of Malta is permanently present with medical, social and humanitarian projects in most countries in the world.
