Volunteer

The Cuban Association has a group of volunteers that support their humanitarian and medical assistance activities in Miami, Cuba, and the Caribbean basin.

In Miami, there are more than thirty volunteers that weekly support the activities at Casa de Malta, assisting with food preparation, teaching classes, and otherwise supporting the poor and the needy throughout the year. Similarly doctors of the Cuban Association work regularly at the St. John Bosco clinic seeing patients who need medical care at this facility.

The more than 150-180 volunteers who participate every year in the Medical missions to the Dominican Republic are doctors, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, and other supporting staff, who several times a year travel to these sites to assist with doctors’ visits to more than 1200 people each four-day mission at the ILAC Center in the Dominican Republic. They always rely on the support of local Health assistants and members of the Dominican Association of the Order of Malta.

The nine or ten members of the Angels of the Caribbean group, based in Miami, travel at least once a year to Haiti to perform their training and medical visits with the support of local doctors in that country.

In the case of the DUNI project in Colombia, a group of nine to twelve people, doctors, nurse practitioners and supporting staff, have been travelling to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta camp at Bunkwimake, at least once every year to assist the local native population with medicines and clinical visits, supported by members of the local Colombian Association of the Order of Malta.

Every year since 2017, the Cuban Association has held a Mass and recognition luncheon in the month of June, held at the Ermita de la Caridad in Miami, on behalf of this group of Volunteers of the Order of Malta and the Cuban Association.

In Cuba, the Association has a group of more than 100 volunteers, assisted locally by the four members of the Association residing in La Habana, who participate in the activities of the Elderly Support Centers throughout the Island. They help serving and delivering meals, and other activities as they are required.
